The first "Wall Street Journal Journalism in Asia Fellowship" was awarded to Indian reporter Shefali Anand. Ms. Anand previously worked for The Indian Express in Mumbai with the newspaper’s business bureau, covering banking, personal finance, stock and commodities markets, and travel and tourism.
She spent about three years as a reporter and sub-editor for the newspaper. Before joining the Express, Ms. Anand worked at a Pune-based English daily, the Maharashtra Herald. Anand graduated from Jesus & Mary College of Delhi University with a bachelor’s degree in commerce, and also completed a one-year course in advance media studies at the Xavier School of Communications in Mumbai.
